Special 6th-Anniversary Meeting!!

This month marks REALL's sixth anniversary. For our special meeting, we will feature Matt Nisbet, the public relations director for CSICOP (Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal) and Skeptical Inquirer magazine, presenting Skeptics Vs. The X-Files: The Media and the Paranormal. This is an interesting topic, and an area in which there is some internal disagreement within the skeptical community. Should skeptics spend time and energy with fictional TV shows like The X-Files? Or should we focus on allegedly non-fiction shows like the many schlockumentaries that pop up on network television from time to time? I've seen many good arguments, both pro- and con-, and will be very interested to see what Matt has to say. In addition to tackling The X-Files, he also will highlight recent cases of media promotion of the paranormal and review recent studies on the link between the media and belief. I hope you will all come to this special anniversary meeting!

Which reminds me — this meeting will not be held on our regular first Tuesday of the month. It will be Monday, February 15, but still at 7 p.m. and still in the Lincoln Library's Carnegie Room South.
